About the Exhibition
Cow Mash’s work is inspired by her artist moniker and the cultures and symbols of the cow within the Sepedi traditions, as well as globally. The artist creates drawings on faux leather, often making use of other synthetic materials. Following this theme, 'Hide and Seek' is a presentation of Cow Mash's new work.
"In this mini body of work, the hide (cowhide) is metaphorically imagined as a layer of clothing humans hide in. I use the Sepedi traditional attire as inspiration for variations of attires worn by the works. Clothing is interesting as an archive of cultural transformation. Through clothing we can seek and investigate the origins of trends, the adaptations of living, and through this the developments of culture. Thus: ‘hide and seek’ the game of tracking culture and exploring personal fingerprints through clothing."- Cow Mash
