About the Exhibition

Read more about our exhibiting artists here:

Fanie Buys is an irreverent artist and graduate of the Michaelis School of Fine Art. Buys’s painterly depiction of popular culture imagery and scenery references the subjectivity through which we view not only other people but ourselves. Buys utilises his art as a way to gain understanding of the notion of self as it fits into a larger societal structure.

Daniel Clarke was born and grew up in Cape Town. He started painting for galleries soon after high school but quickly moved into the commercial art industry, working as a concept artist and production designer.

Karen Cronje’s work explores a range of ideas centring around the notion of a dystopian view of the contemporary world and reflects her interest in ideas around landscape, memory and the intersection of human interaction and the environment. Her process is largely intuitive, guided by ambiguity and mystery.

Rory Emmett recently graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art. The artist writes, “I am concerned with the language and alchemy of painting. Through my work, I attempt to interrogate colour, and its various ideological connotations, as a medium in painting as well as a racial construct”.

Jeanne Hoffman will be showing works in ceramic stoneware. Her focus on mapping gestures are visible in both mediums (painting and ceramics) and pertains to sensory and material observations as explored by the artist.

Clare Menck is one of South Africa’s finest mid-career painters. Her delicate paintings hint at the intimate moments which we all experience. These moments are closely related to the artist, her family and friends and have developed into a documentation of her public and private life.

Anastasia Pather is mainly concerned with surface, gender and the South African-Indian ‘aesthetic’. She aims to bring light to perceptions of value, exoticism and eroticism. Pather works in mixed media, which are inclusive of her previously rejected paintings - repurposed for a more novel aesthetic.
