Breathing. To most of us, it comes naturally. For many others, particularly those for whom anxiety is a daily struggle, that is not the case. The interrelation between breath and state of mind is the inspiration behind Pretoria-based visual artist Louis Minnaar’s latest exhibition, Breathing Room. Consisting of a multi-sensory installation and traditional artworks, the show invites attendees to take part in guided breathing exercises, which aim to create an unusual response – navigating between a calm and agitated state.
