About the Exhibition
Rory Emmett works in a de-constructivist approach to the language, performance and alchemy of painting. HEWN is a brand new solo exhibition comprising of the artist's paintings and installation elements.
"In the past months - in what’s been a difficult and formative time for many, I’ve been exploring various creative approaches in working with paradoxical ideas of solidity and malleability in surface and extending these concepts to form. These visual enquiries have been cathartic as they’ve allowed me to further explore ideas of nationalism, identity, labour, value and materiality within painting and art-making processes more generally. The abstract and figurative fragments on show serve as relics of ancient traditions that have made their way into a tumultuous present moment, yet move towards a constant state of formation to be reexamined." - Rory Emmett
